Ideological divide, or Who makes up the left?

A recent statistic that I heard on the Lou Dobbs Show got me thinking about the political ideology of average Americans. The stat showed that 95% of Dems, 63% of independents, and 30% of Republicans approve of the job Obama is doing. I began to wonder what type of people fall into these three demos.

Jay Leno from time to time would interview people on the street, asking them questions about politics and current events. It was embarrassing to me as an American to see otherwise normal citizens not know the answer to the most basic questions about people in Government, names of prominent Americans, important recent events etc. These people were mostly 20/30 somethings, high school grads from varied backgrounds, some were even college students, many were video game zombies, or MTV groupies, but the most uninformed among them had one thing in common. They all said that they were voting for Barack Obama.

I recently joined Facebook for the purpose of creating a network of concerned friends to discuss ideas relating to the world around us. Most of my contacts so far are relatives living on the east coast. In an attempt to start a dialogue with any of them, each day I would write a short opinion of a news item in the “what’s on my mind” box, which is displayed on each “friends” Facebook page. One day I wrote about the “war on terror” now being referred to as “overseas contingency operation”. The next day I wrote about Obama’s pandering speech in Strasbourg, and so on. Not once did anyone comment on my entries. I even added a link to a blog I posted on the RNC website, and asked my “friends” to please read it and give me some feedback. Not a peep. My Facebook friends and relatives are financially secure, educated, stable, family oriented Democrats. I refer to them as bubble people. They live in their own cocoons, enjoying their comfortable lives, not overly concerned about the state of the nation, feeling confident that their lives will not be disrupted in the least by the social and political turmoil taking place around the globe and in their own backyard. Apparently they’re not interested in discussing the matter. They are quite content to exist within the membrane of their own bubble, and not have to think about the implications of the mishandling of many serious issues facing this country.

Then there are the academics. The intellectuals who indoctrinate our kids in classrooms across America. The Ward Churchills and Bill Ayers of the world. These are people who have never worked a day in their lives. They go from the halls of academia to the offices of academia with no real life experiences to give them perspective. Their entire concept of reality is based on theory which they learned from books written by other empty intellectuals. They are elitists who believe that anyone who is less articulate, or less well read then they are is stupid and deserves only contempt or pity. In fact they believe that most people are too stupid to govern their own lives. To them socialism is the answer.

Those three groups make up all of the 95% of Democrats, and most of the 63% of independents who approve of the direction our country is headed. That leaves the rest of us to save this great country from itself. The clear thinkers who understand that evil really does exist. We who study history and learn from it. The half of this country who is not fooled by deceptive words from a golden orator. The millions of us who are proud of this country, and recognize America for what it is; the most generous, prosperous, productive, and selfless nation that ever existed. I often wonder what this world would be like if there were no America. It is up to us moderates and conservatives to take back our country from the misguided fools who believe that more government is the answer. As Ronald Reagan said, “……Government is the problem“, and that is true today more than ever.

"Throw the Bums Out"

Sometimes, in the great scheme of things, a series of random events occur that combine to produce a “perfect storm”. America now finds itself in the midst of a “perfect political storm”. We’ve elected the most radically leftist president in history, and gifted him with a congress made up of a super majority of his political allies. The combination of a media driven hatred of George W. Bush, an imploding economy, excessive corporate greed, public and private sector incompetence and other less publicized conditions lead to an almost incomprehensible defeat of 8 Republican Senators and 40 Republican Congressmen last Nov. Incomprehensible because the Democratically controlled congress had the lowest approval rating in history for much of 2008. It was 11% last October. So why would American voters reward this kind of utter failure by re-electing the likes of John Murtha, Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, John Kerry, Richard Durbin, Carl Levin and so many other incompetent fools? Simple, media bias, hatred of GWB, and an uninformed or uninterested electorate.

Many of our congressional representatives have been ignoring the will of their constituents for far too long and yet we continually re-elect them. On issues of illegal immigration, energy policy, bailouts, budget, terrorism etc. they consistently vote to weaken this nation. They cram pork barrel earmarks into bills at a time when we can least afford them, and then pass those bills unread. They give themselves 10% raises each year, vote themselves excessive benefits packages, receive their full pay for life, are showered with gifts from lobbyists in return for special favors, and this will never change as long as congress has the power to pass laws on their own behalf. In January of this year, the US Congress voted to raise their yearly expense accounts by $93,000 each. That’s in addition to the $1.6m of petty cash they already receive per member. The answer to dealing with the greed, arrogance, and self-aggrandizement of our elected officials is twofold:

First, we must demand that any pay or benefit increases for Congress be approved by an independent 12-member board selected by the Supreme Court. Increases should be directly tied to the yearly congressional approval rating based on the average of three independent public opinion polls taken every 3 months.

Second, the phrase “throw the bums out” should not be considered empty rhetoric. The American voter needs to demand accountability from their elected officials. If they are not listening to you, THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!!!
